INFO:
I recorded this reel back in April 2022. The song comes from the Broadway musical “Wicked”, and the person singing is “Glinda” the good witch about helping her friend Elphaba become popular with friends at their college. Glinda is a snobby, cute blonde, who ultra popular, and kinda reminds me of a CODA friend… A long time friend… won’t say thier name. Don’t wanna ruin her “popularity”. She kind of turned me on to this song without because the personalities are uncannily similar! I think a lot of people in the school years dream of being popular. I mean, who doesn’t want to be accepted and loved by a large percentage of the school? On the otherhand, if one does not care about being popular, then perhaps they can be their true selves without having to make others happy. There is something about NOT caring how one is perceived. Not a popular viewpoint? Let’s call Glinda! 🪄 🪄 In 2003, Kristin Chenoweth (who sang the Broadway musical “Popular”) was nominated for a second Tony Award for originating the role of Glinda in the musical Wicked. 🪄 “Wicked” is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. It is a loose adaptation of the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which in turn is based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 film adaptation. The musical is told from the perspective of two witches, Elphaba and Galinda, before and after Dorothy's arrival in Oz. 🪄 In 2016, Wicked surpassed $1 billion in total Broadway revenue, joining The Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King as the only Broadway shows to do so. In 2017, Wicked surpassed The Phantom of the Opera as Broadway's second-highest grossing musical, trailing only The Lion King. Popular, indeed! 🪄 🪄 🪄
